The scope and complexity as well as the interdisciplinary involvements of Civil Engineering continues to increase rapidly with the development of modern science and technology and the population growth with its spiraling demands upon the air-land-water environment. The preparation of the Civil Engineering student is aimed toward meeting these challenges through innovative application of known principles, creative research to discover new approaches, and imaginative design to fulfill society's needs.
Mineral Resource Engineering concentrates on the technical, environmental and economic aspects of the extraction and processing of the earth's mineral resources. It has a strong industrial and research interest in underground and surface mining for coal, oil shales, metals, gold and industrial minerals, and in mineral processing. Studies in reservoir engineering, offshore drilling and production of oil and gas complement the Mineral Resource Engineering Program. Mineral Resource Engineering prepares engineers for a career in advanced mine design and planning, rock mechanics, ground control, processing techniques and drilling engineering, etc.
